Fashion Friday

Hello Biffles! Check out what we got our hands on for today's Fashion Friday.
No, we weren't bored in the office and decided to play dress up. There is now a new collection out called Barbie's Basics. Barbie has a rich history with the iconic Little Black Dress (LBD) so it's no wonder that it became the main focus for the line. According to Nitrolicious.com, "To celebrate the launch of the LBD-loving Barbie Basics line, 12 CFDA fashion and accessories designers, including Isaac Mizrahi, Betsey Johnson, Rachel Roy, Justin Giunta, Lorraine Schwartz, Alexis Bittar, Monica Botkier, Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Albertus Swanepoel, Phillip Crangi and Devi Kroell, created one-of-a-kind dolls spotlighting their unique points-of-view. Starting January 28th at 10pm EST through February 7th, these individually styled pieces of art will be auctioned off on eBayBarbie Basics x CFDA Designers [Full Look] with the entire net proceeds directly benefiting CFDA education initiatives and scholarship program. The opening bid begins at $100."

Dear Nicole

TeenDiariesOnline.com is a site dedicated to everything for the teenage girl. From music, fashion, and advice, it’s no wonder that we found this site to be a girl’s true sanctuary. Within the site there is an anonymous advice column called Dear Nicole. It’s a place where you can reach out for a bit of advice or a little direction. We all know life has its little (or maybe huge) complications. That is why we here at BFF decided to team up with TD to present you with, “Dear Nicole”:

Dear Nicole,

I've been crushing on this guy. I don't know if I have to be the first one to approach him or what, but I don't want my friends to think that I'm the one making the first move. I don't know what he really feels about me anyway ... HELP!

A. There is nothing wrong with approaching the guy but that’s not necessarily my style. I suggest you flirt a bit and see if he bites. Now I don’t suggest you throw yourself at him (that’s not ladylike and you ARE a lady). I suggest you do subtle things like maybe linger in his presence a bit more, or sit next to him. If he is in the hall or near you at school then smile at him when you walk by. Try to make sure he notices that you do like him or that you are at least a bit interested. If you must approach him, do so when he is alone and see if you guys can strike up a convo. See if he is on twitter or FB and start there. Maybe a twit or convo on those sites can turn into some phone calls and maybe a budding romance. Hope this helps!

Music Monday

With a concert currently in tow, it's no wonder Lady Gaga has been busy these days. Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (whew), Lady Gaga first hit the music scenes dishing it out in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Her first album, The Fame, was released in August 2008 and went number one in FOUR countries. At the end of 2009, she released her 2nd album titled Fame Monster, which included the chart-topping hit "Bad Romance". When asked about who inspires her, the Lady mentioned artists such as David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Madonna, and Michael Jackson. She also included that fashion is an inspiration to her, which we all can tell from her many outfits/costumes worn on various appearances.

For more information on Lady Gaga, visit her official website @ : LadyGaga.com.

See ya later BFFs!

Dear Nicole,

I liked this guy, and we have dated. But he cheated on me. Then we broke up, and he begged me to forgive him. I did, but now I just like him, but don't love him. He says he loves me. What should I do?

A. Honesty is the best policy in matters like this. Let him know that his infidelity truly did a job on your heart and you no longer have the same feelings. It’s his loss and he will have to deal with the consequences of his behavior. Hope this helps.

Friendship Circle

Friendship Circle is a Detroit based charity with a worldwide network in 80 locations. It is dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs through the power of friendship. Their unique approach pairs teenage volunteers and children with special needs for hours of fun and friendship. These shared experiences empower children with special needs, while enriching the lives of everyone involved.

What you may not know is FC has nearly a thousand volunteers from the Detroit area. These volunteers dedicate their time weekly to help FC’s 3,000 families with special needs. These volunteers are also fostering a sense of hope, leadership and unity in an area where double-digit unemployment has crippled their way of life.

On behalf of our 3,000 families, 900 volunteers and 155 schools…thank you so very much for your support.

In Friendship,
Here are a few ways you can participate in our campaign:

1. Vote for Friendship Circle at http://votefc.com

DO SOMETHING with DoSomething.org

With the tragedy that just hit Haiti, it's no wonder that there are many people that want to help out, including us. We went to DoSomething.org and found a great piece on how one can help out with Haiti Relief. Check it out :

A 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 p.m. on January 12, 2010 and has destroyed most of the capital city, Port-au-Prince. The destruction and loss of life is being called a “major catastrophe” by a top envoy to the country. The earthquake destroyed buildings throughout the nation, including the U.N. peacekeeper compound and parts of the royal palace. The U.S. State Department is reportedly expecting “serious loss of life,” especially as the dust settles on the massive amount of rubble.

The Red Cross estimates that over one-third of the country’s population has been affected by the quake.

This morning rescue crews are scrambling to assess the damage, as first responders and new hands try to dig people out of the rubble.

You can get involved now too:

  • To check on loved ones in Haiti, call U.S. State Department Operations Center at 1-888-407-4747

  • To donate $10 to the Red Cross for their relief efforts, text HAITI to 90999. The donation will be charged to your phone bill

  • Check out organizations like Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti, the Red Cross, and Mercy Corps today and in the coming weeks for more ways to help

  • Learn more about what you can do to prepare for disaster and help disaster victims

  • You and your BFF can help tremendously by donating. Let's all join together and help a good cause.

    Music Monday

For today's Music Monday, we wanted to introduce you all to a band named "Vedera". There music is so hear-worthy that one of their songs was included in an episode of "The Hills"!

Check out Kristen's personal message to all of you, below:

Hey it's Kristen from Vedera here!
There is no doubt our band has a tight family dynamic.  Not only are Jason (bass player) and Brian (guitarist) best friends since High School, but Drew (drummer) is Brian's younger brother.  Brian and I started playing music together about five years ago and instantly clicked on a personal and artistic level.  We started dating and playing music, which eventually led to us tying the knot about three years ago.  I'd say the fact that our band is a family is definitely the reason we're still together doing what we love today.

Having people you respect and trust is super important!  And we're not looking to slow down anytime soon ;)

    Some of our influences are:
The Cranberries, U2, The Sundays, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World

    Now go hug your bff!

Check out this free download link for Vedera’s “Satisfy” as iTunes Single of the Week: http://bit.ly/vederasotw

And for more information on the group, be sure to check out their offical website:  http://www.vederamusic.net/

    Fashion Friday

One thing we've noticed this Winter is that a lot of you are steering away from the nail salon and are choosing to do your nails at home. Nail polish, just like clothing, shows off your individual personality whether you like to stick with neutral tones, the classic french mani or pedi, or bright, bold colors.

And with that, we thought it be best to show you a couple of our fave, LOW COST nail polishes. Yes, LOW COST. These polish brands supply an array of colors and they last long just as the regular brands without breaking the bank.

S I N F U L C O L O R S is one of these brands. They have seven pages of colors that one can choose from at a whopping $2.50 per bottle! Some of their popular colors are : Cottoncandy, Creampink, Chinagold, Volcanic, and Midnight Blue.

Another site we recommend is Diamond Cosmetics. Their nailpolishes are fab as well and only cost $2 per bottle! Talk about frugal chic! Some of their best colors are Cherry Tobacco, Chainmail Charm, Oh Tiff!, and Not Your "Hum Drum" Plum. They even have some colors that glow in the dark.

Be sure to check out these websites and let us know what you think. Drop a line below!

I've been having some problems with my mom. I'm not in any of the hobbies I want to be in. A while back, I asked if I could be in cheerleading. My dad tried to convince my mom to let me be in it. The answer was "yes"! Then my principal decided not to have a cheerleading squad for a while. Recently my school announced that cheerleading was back on. I got the forms that I needed and asked my mom again. Her answer was "NO"!!! The sad part is all of my friends are going to be in cheerleading. I just want my mom to treat me like a teen that needs adventure.

A:I’m sorry to hear you don’t feel like you’ve been able to really live out your teen life in an adventurous way. Problems with parents can be tough and very tricky, especially when you still reside under their roof. I suggest you start with a serious talk with your mom. Let your dad know what you plan on doing and see if he can help in any way. Set the mood, meaning make sure your mom is in the mood to talk and let her know what she is in for. Make a meal for her or just make sure she is comfortable, and prepare to have a deep discussion. Now, there are some rules when trying to get someone to really hear you when you speak. The first is to avoid anything that may offend them or put them on the defensive. A way to do that is by using I statements not You statements. For example, “I really want to be more involved in school and it really disappoints me when I have to pass on great opportunities” instead of “You never allow me to be involved at school and you’re really making me upset.”

Another thing to remember is that conversation is a two way street. Try your best to avoid talking over each other. Let her finish her points no matter how difficult they are to hear. If she interrupts you, let her speak and then finish your point. Your goal is for her to HEAR you not for you just to get your point across. Lastly, be solution focused and prepared. If you want to participate in extracurricular activities, then you should have a plan on how you are going to do so. If it’s safety that your mom is concerned about, talk to your admin and provide her with a list of staff that supervise the activities. And the fact is, grades are not the only criteria colleges and universities look at when considering applicants. They want to see a well-rounded person and that includes participation in extra activities. Be prepared to have to divide your conversation in to parts. Sometimes parents need a moment to think about everything. If you see your mom is getting agitated or is no longer listening, back off and revisit the conversation another day. Hope this helps.

    Music Monday

Get the party started with recording artist, Ke$ha. If her name doesn't sound familiar, her voice definitely will. Her major break took place after appearing in rapper FloRida's hit song "Right Round". Her debut single, "Tik Tok", was released in August 2009, it reached number one in four countries and set the female weekly download record in the US. Her debut album, Animal, will be released in early 2010.

Some of her musical influences include Beck and Queen. She draws from rap music and old-school punk as well, she tells RWD Magazine. She also credits her brother with exposing her to groups such as Fugazi and Dinosaur Jr.

For more information on Ke$ha, visit her official website at : KeshasParty.com.

    Weekend Recap - Part 1

Hello Biffles! Been super busy this week planning all your New Year's Eve activities that you've missed some posts? Well don't worry because right now we're about to jump into the recap of this week's posts. Get ready, because we're starting now!

Spike Lee's directed video for the late Michael Jackson was our pic for Music Monday. The video paid homage not only to Michael but to his home of Gary, Indiana. On Tuesday, TeenDiariesOnline's Nicole, tried to help someone out who's cousin lied and told her parents that her boyfriend snuck into the house! What was the best thing to do? Talking it out.

And that's part one of today's weekend recap. See you tomorrow for part 2!
