Doing Good by DoSomething.org
CA
Kid Flicks was founded by the Barta sisters in the spring of 2002. They were doing some “Spring cleaning” and realized they had a number of DVDs they had either outgrown or no longer watched. A friend of theirs had recently been treated for Leukemia and they remembered she had watched movies to help pass her time while in the hospital. This inspired Marni and her sister Berni to take their movies to the Pediatric Oncology Department of the Los Angeles hospital where their friend had been treated. When they dropped off their donations, the Child Life Specialist told them that “movies are the first things kids ask for when they are in the hospital.” That afternoon the Barta sisters were inspired and decided to collect as many DVDs as possible to donate to as many hospitals as possible. They wrote solicitation letters to family and friends, and within the first week, had collected over 100 movies. Donations continued to pour in. To organize their new development, they decided that each hospital would receive a “movie library” of 100 assorted films to appeal to boys and girls, toddlers through teenagers. They have now sent 32,900 DVDs to 329 hospitals in all fifty states and, recently, South Africa.

Jake Hurwitz & BFF
When I was 21 I moved to New York City to go to Hunter College and become an intern at CollegeHumor.com. There, I met a ton of quick, smart, super funny people- needless to say I was incredibly intimidated. I didn't talk for the first six months. Finally I started to be less shy around the office and sure enough, my coworkers showed me another one of their traits- they were accepting. Our office had grown considerably since I started and in the spring we moved our location to a bigger space in Union Square. There, our seating assignments left me across from a guy named Amir.
Amir and I had always gotten along, I thought he was the funniest person in the office. In August, as a birthday present, my dad bought me a digital camera. Amir and I were constantly joking around in different, strange characters, so it seemed natural that once I had a camera we began to record it. That first video back in August has since grown to over 200 videos. And it's gone from an after work hobby to practically a full time job with radio, magazine and television appearances as well as a national college tour. I'd brag about it if I could believe it were happening.
So when I got the opportunity to host BFF, and they offered me another opportunity to film a Jake and Amir video on the set, I was pumped. I made a lot of new friends while shooting BFF, and the prospect of having my CollegeHumor world and my MySpace world merge was awesome. All my new BFFs and my old BFF got along great, and I think the video turned out pretty well too.

FASHION!
Fashion is obviously unique and individual, but it’s always interesting to see what other people are leaning forward to in terms of style.
Honesty is KEY when asking your BFF how your outfit looks. BFF Season 2 contestants, Carolyn & Pat gave us the scoop on their own personal style and what they think of their BFF’s fashion choices:
Carolyn: “I am the type of girl that people always say "That is sooo your style" but I don't know exactly what my "style" is. I like to be colorful and different but modern. Patrick is super stylish; we have the same taste in style. He does have one shirt that looks like a lumberjack that I love to make fun of!” (peek @ carolyn's blog)
Patrick: “My style is relaxed but put together. I love old t-shirts but have developed a weird obsession with plaid shirts this year. Plaid is RAD! Carolyn's style is pretty similar to mine, but every once in a while she busts out this big, flannel Snuggie-like shirt that I call "Roseanne." I can't help but make fun when she wears it!” (peek @ pat's blog)

Celebrity Wednesdays!
Here on BFF we celebrate everything that ties Best Friends, and what couldn’t be better than showcasing every week, our favorite celeb BFFs! Celebrities are constantly in the limelight and it’s obvious that they need that one person they can lean on, which brings us to our first pair of Celeb BFFS:
Twilight Stars: Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed.
Yep, it’s true. “Bella Swan” is “Rosalie Cullen’s” BFF. Despite “Rosalie’s” hatred for “Bella” on the big-screen, in real life these two gals love spending quality time with one another. Not only are they set to star together in a new movie, K-11, in which they will be playing MEN but they also create their schedules around one another. “I stayed there [in New Orleans] while she was shooting,” Reed said. “She’s actually coming back for two more days on Monday, and I’m missing all of my press next week so I can just go be with her, just because, like, that’s what life is all about, you know what I mean?” (AfterEllen.com) Talk about inseparable!
Make sure to keep checking for new posts. You’ll be surprised by what we have in store for you BFFs!
