Doing Good by DoSomething.org

BFFS from all over the country are taking part in helping out others. DoSomething.org has shared with us an inspiring story. Read as two sisters "spring cleaned" their way into a lot of people's hearts:

Marni and Berni Barta
CA

Kid Flicks was founded by the Barta sisters in the spring of 2002. They were doing some “Spring cleaning” and realized they had a number of DVDs they had either outgrown or no longer watched. A friend of theirs had recently been treated for Leukemia and they remembered she had watched movies to help pass her time while in the hospital. This inspired Marni and her sister Berni to take their movies to the Pediatric Oncology Department of the Los Angeles hospital where their friend had been treated. When they dropped off their donations, the Child Life Specialist told them that “movies are the first things kids ask for when they are in the hospital.” That afternoon the Barta sisters were inspired and decided to collect as many DVDs as possible to donate to as many hospitals as possible. They wrote solicitation letters to family and friends, and within the first week, had collected over 100 movies. Donations continued to pour in. To organize their new development, they decided that each hospital would receive a “movie library” of 100 assorted films to appeal to boys and girls, toddlers through teenagers. Donations continued to pour in. To organize their new development, they decided that each hospital would receive a “movie library” of 100 assorted films to appeal to boys and girls, toddlers through teenagers. They have now sent 32,900 DVDs to 329 hospitals in all fifty states and, recently, South Africa.

Good job ladies!

Jake Hurwitz & BFF

The host of BFF Season 2, Jake Hurwitz, shares how he and his BFF Amir first met. Check it out:

"As the host of BFF I feel like I'm supposed to be a resident expert on all things friend related. I'm certainly not, but I do have a story of how I met my current best friend.

When I was 21 I moved to New York City to go to Hunter College and become an intern at CollegeHumor.com. There, I met a ton of quick, smart, super funny people- needless to say I was incredibly intimidated. I didn't talk for the first six months. Finally I started to be less shy around the office and sure enough, my coworkers showed me another one of their traits- they were accepting. Our office had grown considerably since I started and in the spring we moved our location to a bigger space in Union Square. There, our seating assignments left me across from a guy named Amir.

Amir and I had always gotten along, I thought he was the funniest person in the office. In August, as a birthday present, my dad bought me a digital camera. Amir and I were constantly joking around in different, strange characters, so it seemed natural that once I had a camera we began to record it. That first video back in August has since grown to over 200 videos. And it's gone from an after work hobby to practically a full time job with radio, magazine and television appearances as well as a national college tour. I'd brag about it if I could believe it were happening.

So when I got the opportunity to host BFF, and they offered me another opportunity to film a Jake and Amir video on the set, I was pumped. I made a lot of new friends while shooting BFF, and the prospect of having my CollegeHumor world and my MySpace world merge was awesome. All my new BFFs and my old BFF got along great, and I think the video turned out pretty well too.

Fashion Friday

Question: What are some things we run to our BFF for?

Answer:

  • · Advice
  • · Problems
  • · Just to talk
  • · To borrow (take) that new CD he/she just purchased

AND ...

FASHION!

Other than advice, fashion and style has to be one of the most important topics we discuss with our BFFs. They are the first individuals we turn to and ask “How does this look?” This is why we decided to dedicate Fridays towards Fashion.

Fashion is obviously unique and individual, but it’s always interesting to see what other people are leaning forward to in terms of style.

Honesty is KEY when asking your BFF how your outfit looks. BFF Season 2 contestants, Carolyn & Pat gave us the scoop on their own personal style and what they think of their BFF’s fashion choices:

Carolyn: “I am the type of girl that people always say "That is sooo your style" but I don't know exactly what my "style" is. I like to be colorful and different but modern. Patrick is super stylish; we have the same taste in style. He does have one shirt that looks like a lumberjack that I love to make fun of!” (peek @ carolyn's blog)

Patrick: “My style is relaxed but put together. I love old t-shirts but have developed a weird obsession with plaid shirts this year. Plaid is RAD! Carolyn's style is pretty similar to mine, but every once in a while she busts out this big, flannel Snuggie-like shirt that I call "Roseanne." I can't help but make fun when she wears it!” (peek @ pat's blog)

Celebrity Wednesdays!

Here on BFF we celebrate everything that ties Best Friends, and what couldn’t be better than showcasing every week, our favorite celeb BFFs! Celebrities are constantly in the limelight and it’s obvious that they need that one person they can lean on, which brings us to our first pair of Celeb BFFS:

Twilight Stars: Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed.

Yep, it’s true. “Bella Swan” is “Rosalie Cullen’s” BFF. Despite “Rosalie’s” hatred for “Bella” on the big-screen, in real life these two gals love spending quality time with one another. Not only are they set to star together in a new movie, K-11, in which they will be playing MEN but they also create their schedules around one another. “I stayed there [in New Orleans] while she was shooting,” Reed said. “She’s actually coming back for two more days on Monday, and I’m missing all of my press next week so I can just go be with her, just because, like, that’s what life is all about, you know what I mean?” (AfterEllen.com) Talk about inseparable!

Make sure to keep checking for new posts. You’ll be surprised by what we have in store for you BFFs!

Oh, and btw, if you didn’t catch the first episode of season 2 on MySpace, it is now up live on our site. Check it out: http://bff.tv.

Tuesdays = New Episode on MYSPACE!

The FIRST, OFFICIAL episode of BFF Season 2 is up live on MYSPACE.COM/BFF!
Be sure to check it out and make sure to pass it along to all of your friends.

Speaking of friends, have you ever wondered how some BFFs are inseparable? We asked this question to one of our contestants, Amanda. Her and her BFF Dawn (see below) are on the first episode of BFF Season 2.

Here is what Amanda had to say:

"I manage to stay so close to her because we actually cannot stand to be apart from one another. It's bad-we actually call and text each other while we're at work, and then we go see each other at work afterwards-we simply love one another so much we never run out of things to talk about."

Not only is BFF a fun game show but it also creates an experience that many will never forget!

Music Mondays - Jess Furman

Jess Furman specially recorded a song for BFF titled "Count on Me" (which happens to be our theme song!)

Jess was kind enough to sit down with us and reflect on her music and what the song "Count on Me" means to her:

"In life, I always find that there are so many wonderful memories I want to hold onto. I want to be able to remember that feeling I felt at that time - or as close to it as I can. Music has always been this incredible gift. I might be on stage in front of an audience of people I don't know, but they're singing along with me - and in a sense, there's an understanding. Love, loss - friendship ... we all experience these things.

"Count on Me" is one of those songs that reminds me that no matter where this life takes me, I have good friends and people who I know will always be there for me. I might travel far from the people I love for certain periods of time - but I can put on that song and get back a little of that feeling that I have when I'm surrounded by my friends and we're just being our goofy selves. Music just has this innate power to take you back to those places...and every day I am thankful for that."

Julie & Julia

Before my BFF left for Canada, we saw the movie "Julie & Julia". Much to our surprise it was a really great movie. Everyone should definitely try to go and see it.

Borders Don't Necessarily Create Limits

Aw! My BFF is the BEST! Though she's not able to text or call me, she's still able to e-mail me and talk to me on Facebook. To get me in better spirits (especially with the boyfriend situation), she sent me this video from a couple years back.

Hope you enjoy it as much as i did:
