DIY - Jean Book Bag!

Got a pair of old, torn jeans? Not sure what to do with them? Recycle them by learning how to turn them into a stylish book bag!

Things You'll Need:

* Old pair of jeans
* Scissors
* Needle and thread or sewing machine
* Belt (optional)
* Decorative fabric paint or glitter (optional)

Lay out the jeans you want to use. To make a bag with a straight bottom, cut a straight line just above the crotch area, cutting off the legs and bottom seam. To make a V-shaped bag, simply cut the legs off from seam to seam.

Turn the jeans inside out and use needle and thread or a sewing machine to make medium-sized stitches along the edge, making sure to take care at the seams (thick seams can damage a sewing machine).

Once you have sewn the bottom securely, cut your straps from your leftover denim legs, cutting them into whatever thickness and length you want. You can either sew them into the inside of the jeans or tie them securely to the belt loops on the outside.

To decorate, add a belt to the belt loops and cover purse with colorful fabric paint and glitter. You can also find patches to sew or iron on. Now you have finished your bag!

Tips & Warnings

* The length of the straps will dictate what kind of bag it is; long straps will make a shoulder bag or tote, short straps will make a satchel or small purse.

* If you do not own a sewing machine, learn how to sew medium stitches at http://www.alternative-windows.com/stitches.htm.

* If under the age of 18, make sure to have an adult supervise and help you.

* Do not try to attempt to machine sew the thick, denim seams. Doing so will potentially break your needle. Instead, sew the seams by hand and the fabric with the machine.

Friendship Friday!: BFF's Night Out

Hi BFF'ers,

As we were surfing the web, we stumbled upon an article from Celebrations.com that featured a really great idea on a girls night out party. Read below and be sure to tell us what you think:

The girls. They make you laugh, bring you Ben & Jerry's when you cry and will always tell you when those jeans make you look fat. And when you get together, whether its for a day of shopping, pampering or chick-flick marathoning, it's always a fun good time.

Chick-Flick Marathon Party
They make us laugh, cry and cause the men in our life to hide the remote! That's right we're talking about chick flicks. And there's no better way to celebrate an all girls evening than with a screening. So when the boys are the way, press play! Here's how to plan a BFF-film-fest.

* Include a ballot with the top-chick flicks (in different categories) and ask your guests to weigh in on their favorites. For example:

1. Best Use of Brad Pitt in a Film
2. Best Romantic Comedy
3. Best Film When You Want to Cry-Your Eyes Out

* Serve a menu inspired by the winning fillms and liven things up with wine-spritzer's served in classic soda fountain cups.

* During intermission play a movie trivia game like SCENE IT, or the Sex and the City trivia game.

* Give your gal-pals a goodie bag to commemorate the first annual film fest. Fill a popcorn tub with a bag of microwave popcorn, classic movie candy and a gift-certificate to a local theatre so they can go check out next year's contendors!

Best Armed Forces Friends

Hola Biffles! Show your pride for our country by donning a BFF bracelet and connecting with a service man or woman who is currently stationed overseas.

The BFF bracelets are a joint initiative by the American Freedom Foundation (AFF) and BFF Entertainment.  As Belle says, “It’s a symbol of my support for friends of the military serving our country.” Each of the bands comes engraved with a unique number, and when you register a specific bracelet, its matching pair is sent to an active military serviceman overseas, who you can connect with through the AFF’s online community.

To get your bracelet, head over to our BFF Bracelet Page.

Study Abroad

Ever considered studying abroad? Many high schools and colleges are now granting students the opportunity to broaden their horizons via study abroad and student exchange programs. If you are back and forth on whether studying abroad is for you, consider the following:
  • You can learn about new cultures from natives instead of a textbook.
  • You will meet a lot of interesting people who can make a lasting impression on your life.
  • You can experiment with a new hobby, such as photography in London or cooking in Tuscany.
  • You can take weekend trips to neighboring countries.
  • You will have unforgettable experiences.
  • When else will you have an opportunity to leave the country for an extended period of time?
Convinced yet? Talk to a guidance counselor or adviser to learn about your options.

Studied abroad in the past? Tell us about your experiences!

Trends We're Loving: Military Inspired Fashion

We are loving the military trends that we're seeing this season.  Check out some of our favorite looks:
A fitted military-inspired jacket can update any look. Throw one on over a simple t-shirt and jeans and you'll be the best dressed girl on the block!
Add some camouflage! This muted camo print is subtle but sylish.
Combat boots are back! The heel on this pair adds a feminine touch to the rough & tough details.
Show your support with your accessories. Proceeds from the BFF bracelet go to charities that support members of the armed forces and their families. Added bonus: by purchasing a bracelet, you will be paired with a serviceman or woman who is currently stationed overseas!

Check your local Target, J.Crew, and Kohls for these great looks! We have also spotted some adorable military-inspired pieces at Forever 21, H&M, and American Eagle.

Do you have a military-inspired outfit? Send us a pic!

National Women's Friendship Day!

Yesterday marked National Women's Friendship Day and with that, we wanted to showcase some of our FAVE celebrity gal pals, because let's face it, no matter how rich or famous she is, every girl needs her girlfriends.

Jennifer Garner & Jessica Biel - these cover girls became close while filming "Valentine's Day".

Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart - After sharing the screen in New Moon and starring in the upcoming film, The Runaways, these two have been attached to the hip.

Jennifer Aniston & Courtney Cox-Arquette - Jennifer and Courteney formed a fast friendship back in 1994 on the set of Friends, and a decade and a half later they're still as close as ever.

Kimora Lee & Tyra Banks - The two former models have been close since their runway days.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler - Tina and Amy know that in a male-dominated industry like comedy, funny girls need to stick together.

Who's your favorite pair of BFFs? Let us know by dropping a line below!

Friendship Friday!: Studying with Friends

OK. So you've got a huge exam on Monday but signing on to Facebook or watching the latest episode of Vampire Diaries seems like a much better idea. But let's face it, Vampire Diaries will not get you an A on that exam, so how can you make studying more fun? Study with your BFF(s)!
Studying with friends is probably the best way to make studying enjoyable. You can study in groups and have friends stay the night or go out to pizza. You can use the same idea and play a game. Great group games would be Jeopardy or Hangman. Set up a point system and reward those who get the most answers right. Make it even more interesting by adding a timer and buzzer to speed up the game and make it more challenging. Take turns reading the text book or even pass along a notebook so everyone takes turns taking notes. At a little bit of color and have everyone write in different color pen. There are many places you can go to study aside from the pizza parlor such as coffee or a restaurant. The only thing to be concerned with is extensive noise or other distractions which can interrupt your studies.

Although studying is not any fun, it can be made a little bit less boring by adding different ideas or games into the mix. Many games are available at bookstores or online, not to mention that you can make your own flash cards out of simple index/recipe cards. Invite some of your close biffles and make an event out of it and order food. Although playing games such as memory or hangman may seem cheesy, you will find that it will still lighten the mood and make studying less boring.

Got some other fun ideas? Tell us by dropping a line below!

Football Fun!

Did you know that you don't have to like football (or even understand it) to enjoy football games? This past weekend marked the official start of football season, and we've got some tips for you and your BFF to help you make the most of it!
  • Sporting events are all about spirit.  If you are feeling adventurous, paint your face in your team's colors or draw your favorite player's number on your cheek.  (Be sure to have your BFF help you because mirrors can easily result in backwards numbers!)  Not up for the full-on face paint? Try tie-dying a shirt in your team's colors and tie ribbons in your hair. Look cute and spirited!
  • Organize a tailgate with your friends. Hot dogs and hamburgers are a must, and trust us when we say that a thermos with coffee or hot chocolate will become your best friend during the colder months! Tailgates are also a great way to meet new people before the game...like that cute guy across the parking lot. Wander from group to group to make the most of this traditional event.
  • Yell when everyone else yells.  Like we said - you don't need to actually understand the game. Football games always elicit a strong response from the fans, so just follow their lead!
Go team!

Trends We're Loving: '50's Fashion!

We're hearing reports that fifties fashion is back. We know, we know....you weren't even alive in the 1950's! Don't worry, BFFers, because we've got you covered with all you need to know to assemble a fabulous '50's inspired outfit!

  • Add pearls! Pearls add class and femininity to any ensamble, whether it be in the form of simple earrings, a dangling necklace, or a delicate bracelet. Forever 21 carries some fabulously affordable faux's!
  • Think A-line skirts and dresses.  This shape will flatter any body type and is appropriate for both day and night. Don't forget to add a belt to accentuate your waist! Find great selections of this timeless shape at The Gap and J. Crew.
  • Put your scarves to good use! Tie a simple silk scarf around your neck to add a pop of color to an outfit, or cover up a bad hair day by using the scarf as a headband. The bolder the print, the better!
  • Paint that pout red! Crimson lips are all the rage this season. Keep the rest of your makeup simple to avoid looking overdone.
  • Get inspired by Mad Men! Let's face it...those ladies never fail to look stunning.

Will you be embracing the '50's fall fad? Let us know!

Beauty Tuesday: Bargain Bronzer

Biffles, we’ve talked about how dangerous it is to bake outside and get a genuine tan. Last week's Emmy attendees did it up well (and safely!) with some stunning bronzer. This multi-functional item helps cheekbones appear more prominent while adding a kiss of color to pale skin. So you don't blow your allowance all in one beauty area, we've got a current fave on the cheap:

Sonia Kashuk Bare Minimum Pressed Powder Bronzer This beauty barg rings in at $9 at your local Target. For vampire-fair gals, this one boasts a believable hue if you make sure to brush it on where the sun would naturally hit your face—forehead, cheeks and a touch on the chin.

What are your favorite ways to get glowing? Tell us in the comments.

Xx,
Your BFF

Stay Supportive!

Were you watching as President Obama officially declared an end to the seven year combat in Iraq?  The brave soldiers who dedicated almost a decade to this war deserve the utmost gratitude from US citizens.  We are so happy that our troops can finally come home to their loved ones, and are so thankful for their patriotism and dedication to the U.S.A.

The combat in Iraq may be over, but we cannot forget the thousands of soldiers who are still stationed overseas in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, South Korea...and the list goes on.   We must continue to show our support and appreciation for our armed forces.  Show that you care by wearing a bff bracelet - the bracelets has been designed to unite American citizens with military service members to show support and gratitude for their service and hard work.

Welcome home, troops!
