National Girlfriends Day
This Sunday, August 1st, is National Girlfriends Day. Ladies, you know what that means - grab your girls and celebrate in style! Get together for a delicious brunch at your favorite restaurant to reminisce over the good times and the bad. Celebrate all of the laughs that you have shared, and take time to appreciate the comfort and support that your biffles have offered during the not-so-pleasant times. If your BFF does not live close to you, make sure you take the time out of your day to give them a call and thank them for being such a fabulous friend. Enjoy the holiday, girls!

Transitional Outfits: What to leave behind and what to bring with you into Fall :)
We know what you’re thinking: “Fall?! It’s not even August! What’s the deal?!”
Well, despite the continued heat it’s no great secret that virtually everyone is releasing their sneak peak, fall lines right now. And though we’re not quite ready to ditch our leggings for tights just yet, we can’t help but daydream about what this new season will bring. So, bear with us, ladies- we promise that after this read, you’ll be aching for cozy sweaters and hot coco, too :)
What to leave behind: Making the transition from summer to fall isn’t quite as drastic as it used to be, white pants are always in vogue now and peep-toe pumps can be made perfect for chilly weather with the addition of stocking socks or tights. We only ask that you reconsider the bathing suit cover-ups and flip flops; for these things, there is always a time and a place and October just isn’t it- Icy rain on our pedicures? NO THANKS!
What to bring: Fortunately, with the addition of a few “heavy” pieces and more seasonally appropriate accessories much of what was summer can ease into your new wardrobe pretty seamlessly. But wearers beware- silk slip dresses and light linen pants can be a tough sell. So, just to help out, we here at BFF are taking two summer classics and moving them into the new school year: Jean shorts and sun dresses.
Here’s what we’re thinking:
Don't forget to drop us a line below with your thoughts!

Decorating your dorm: All the necessities and a few of the pretties :)
Alright, so it may be tight on space and the cinder-block walls are a little less then exciting but don’t let the sterility fool you- your dorm room is your canvas. Trust us, it will become your escape from the chaos of school and for many of you, your very first home-away-from-home. So, be bold, get creative and go for it! After all girls, this isn’t high school anymore, anything goes!
It’s best to get the necessities out of the way first: mini-fridges, televisions, microwaves, and printers are a few of the items to be discussed with your roommate. Once you know who’s bringing what, the real fun can begin. Try to choose a color scheme that suits both your tastes. It doesn’t have to match perfectly but consider sticking within the same color family just to go easy on the eyes.

Here’s what we’re loving right now: cool colors, sharp patterns and a touch of whimsy.
Go crazy with pattern and color! Since paint isn’t allowed, transform your space by adding colorful bedding and accessories. Keep the space grounded with black and white prints and tie it all together with one large, center rug. Add flare and warmth with family photos, collages, and textured elements such as quilted bedspreads and knit blankets. And most importantly, make it inviting, make it cozy, make it yours!
We’d love to see what you’ve picked out for your new space! Share your links or photos below!

Beauty Tuesday!
Every girl worth trading Silly Bands with has experienced the dreaded zit at some time or another. We know it can be hard to find a skin care brand that works well for you. But of course, like true BFFs, we are here to help! Keep an eye out for oil-free and non-comedogenic formulas, such as Murad’s latest suite of products for the younger set: Clean Scene. Just make sure not to try too much of the product so that you don't further irritate your skin. And if all else fails? A trip to the dermatologist will help you keep your oil in check. We asked our Twitter community (are you following us? We’re @bfftv!) to share their best anti-acne tips:
@ladyfacejones I find the easiest way to keep my skin clear and fresh is to get as much Vitamin D as I can! Sunny days are my acne treatment!
- Our thoughts: Vitamin D is totally important, but don’t forget to rock some sunscreen (and reapply) if you’re going out in the sun!
@mariadugo I go old school when fighting acne: Toothpaste! Getting some sun helps, too (sunscreen a must) as long as you wash off the oil after.
- Our thoughts: Toothpaste is one of our faves, too! It's perfect for drying out that zit for emergency situations (like that new date you've got coming up!)
What’s your best zit-zapping tip? Tell us in the comments section below!

Roomie Lovin'
Leaving the comforts of home to head off to college can be a scary experience for any girl. Don’t know anyone at your university? Getting set up with a random roommate? Bff.tv has your back with four old-school ways for you and your new friend to get to know each other better.
- Question Game- The question game has been around forever (we're willing to bet your parents played it during their college days!). It is a great way to get to know each other and discuss random topics without feeling awkward. Start with these...
- If you won the lottery, what would you buy?
- What is your favorite movie?
- What is your dream job?
- What do you like to do in your free time?
- Play board games! This is a great way for you and your roommates to share some laughs and bond over being silly. Being able to laugh with one another (or even laugh at each other) is a step closer to becoming friends.
- Feeling a little daring? Want to know a little bit more about each other and feel threatened to ask? Play the hit game that is featured at every slumber party: truth or dare!
- Are you and your roommate living in a new state? Not really familiar with the city? Go out and explore! Grab a bite to eat at a new restaurant, or simply wander the campus to find out where the cutest guys hang out. Sometimes getting lost with one another is a great way to get a feel for your new home. While adventuring around there is always time to play "I spy with my little eye", which will draw your attention to the not-so noticeable things the city has to offer.
Share with us your stories on how you bonded with your roomie!

Friendship Friday!
Welcome back to Friendship Friday!
This week we received a question from a BFF fan that really stood out to us, mainly because we've all experienced a similar situation in the past...
"Whenever I hang out with my best friend, I feel like a third wheel to her and her cell phone. She's constantly texting and checking her email! It makes me feel as those she would rather be spending her time with whoever is on the other end of the phone. What do I do?"
Your initial instinct may be to grab the phone from her hands and throw it out the nearest window, but we highly recommend that you don't take this option. Instead, address the issue with her! Let her know in a calm and level-headed manner that you value the time that you spend with her and that it hurts when she cannot give you her full attention. Be careful with your wording- yes, it is rude of her to be texting over the dinner table, but it is not your place to point out her flawed manners. If she is truly a good friend, she will listen to what you say. Good luck!
Have you ever experienced a similar situation? Or are you on the other side- are you the habitual texter? We want to hear your thoughts!

What We're Loving: Espadrilles!
It's time to get rid of the flip flops and flats, girls. Going out with friends? On a date? Or do you simply need a cute accessory to tie your look together? Espadrilles are what we’re loving right now! This cute shoe is perfect for every outfit and every occasion.
Espadrilles have been around since the 14th century and continue to be one of the hottest looks out there. The word espadrille comes from the Catalan name for a tough Mediterranean grass used for making rope. The outsole of the wedge is woven, which is perfect for a summery look. Original espadrilles were made with laces to tie up the ankle for support. This adds to the sexy lace up look that we often see in Tory Burch’s collections.
This look has been sported around Hollywood by some of our favorite stars, including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, and even Katie Holmes. If you're wondering what to pair these adorable shoes with, we've got some tips! Wear your espadrilles with a printed airy dress for a Bohemian look, or throw on your favorite flowy top with a pair of shorts for a cute, laid-back look. Perfect for a night out with the girls!
Women's Knotted Jersey Espadrilles by Old Navy
The best part about this shoe is that it is made by practically all designers and can always be found for less! Some places to find this hot look for Summer 2010 for less are T.J Maxx, Forever 21, Marshalls, DSW, Kohl’s and Target. Looking to spend a little more? This shoe is also made by Tory Burch, Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden, etc.Wednesday, July 21, 2010
Get the Look: Camilla Belle!
We’ve seen her grace the red carpet in gowns we can only dream of owning, drooled over her Nylon and Teen Vogue spreads, ticked through her “street style” galleries on celeb-gossip sites, and admit it, we all envied her Jonas Brother attachment (RIP JoeMilla!)… We just have to give it to her- Camilla Belle has some pretty fantastic taste! Be it a signature nude lip or her chic, yet organic sensibility, she always seems just a few steps ahead of the rest of us.
Well, the gang here at BFF thinks imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so to show how much we love her, we’re bringing you two Camilla looks to admire and replicate…
Now, we know what you’re thinking and you’ve got it all wrong. It’s probably something along the lines of “Hold the phone! Pfft I can’t afford her Gucci frames much less a McQueen mini dress!” isn’t it?
Sigh We thought so. Well, try to have a little faith, ladies because as always, we’ve got you covered. Each of these outfits comes in at under $200 a piece! :)
So, let’s get started, shall we?
Look one: Whether you're taking in a show with your BFF or your dinner-date fantasy with the crush next door is finally coming true, you’ll be turning heads in this soft, Max Azria inspired number! Camilla’s asymmetrical, kelly-green, cocktail dress is paired with silver pumps, a printed clutch and tons of accessories- it’s simple and demure with just a hint of flirtation.
Miss Mitzy Mint Dress from lulus.com, $39.00
Colin Stuart Stitched Pump in Graphite from Victoria ’s Secret, $68.00
Simply Vera by Very Wang Metallic Python Wristlet from Kohl’s, $34.00
Axcess Two-Tone Feather Cuff Bracelet from Kohl’s, $24.00
Beatriz Metal Bracelet Set from Forever21, $8.80
Ethnic Layered Earrings from Forever21, $3.80
Although the Mitzy dress is a different shade from the original, the cut, the shape and the design is so close we almost couldn’t believe our eyes! We added texture with a stitched pump and did double duty with our faux, snakeskin wristlet by pulling in some much needed color. Lastly, taking Camilla’s lead, we threw out the rule book on separating our metallics and pulled the look together with silver and gold jewelry accents. And we did it all for just $178!
Look two: Take the glam down a few notches with this casual, day-in-the park-wear. Seen at this year’s Coachella music festival, Camilla is rocking a mono-tonal color palette that screams “relaxed, summer cool”. Just nix a few accessories and switch the boots for a pair of Huarache heels and PRESTO! you’re off to a lunch-date with the girls. It’s easy, it’s versatile and most importantly, it’s comfortably-chic.
For Something Similar:
Tribal Print Lattice Dress from Forever21, $18.90
Crochet Sweater Cardigan from Forever21, $29.80
Drawstring Leatherette Tote from Forever21, $29.80
Rocket Dog “Rancher” from Piperlime.com, $59.00
Make a Wish Necklace with Gold Dipped Skull on Black from Dogeared.com, $30.00
Millie Sunglasses from Alloy.com, $10.90
Altered Art Charm ring “The Vintage Owl” from Etsy.com, $6.00
That’s How Wristery is Written Bangle Set from Lulus.com, $14.00
We may have strayed from Camilla’s floral print but this tribal frock is short, sweet and just as summery. Paired with Forever21’s crochet sweater and drawstring tote and it’s almost a spot on reproduction. Though we love Ms. Belle’s Frye boots, they’re just a tad too much for our bank. But no worries- our best find of the day was Rocketdog’s faux leather, motorcycle boots! For a quarter of the cost we got the same weight, feel and texture, all without sparing an inch for style! To finish, we topped it off with understated yet eccentric accessories and jewelry finds! The total cost for this look was $199.
We have to say- we’re pretty happy with our impressions but are you? Tell us what you think by commenting below! We’d love to see your picks!

Beauty Tuesday: Hair!
What's one thing we do with our BFF? No, not borrow her clothes. We pass along beauty tips! Whether these tips have been passed down from momma or read from a magazine, we always want to make sure our BFF is in the know!
With these sizzling, hot Summer days, we know how hard it can be to maintain that mane of yours. The friz, the dryness, the stray-aways; what are we to do!? This week, we asked our Twitter BFFs (do you follow us at @bfftv ?) to share their best tips (or twips as we like to call them) on how to keep hair frizz-free and off your face in the summertime:
@fishamy @bfftv my bff @crcsings loves the bumpit and spin pins.
Our thoughts: The bumpit is amazing. My bff with almost no hair, super thin, swears by it!
Our thoughts: The bumpit is amazing. My bff with almost no hair, super thin, swears by it!
@JMC4PR @bfftv White Sands Porosity The Fix. Unnaturally high and low levels of are the main causes of damaged locks.
Our thoughts: Yep, over-coloring or heat styling or bleaching makes the hair really porous. What do you do when your locks are fried?
@jmarteca @bfftv ponytails and braids are in season for the summer and are great to keep humidity prone frizz at bay!!
Our thoughts: So braids--especially Frenchies--seem to be making a comeback--but seriously, how long can you keep them in?

Summer Leaving you Sluggish?
So it’s summer. Hanging by the pool, bike riding with your BFF, relaxing in the backyard hammock…you know the drill. It’s hot, humid and sometimes even exhausting. Did you know that you can put the pep back in your step by making small changes in your eating habits? (And no, it does not include adding a third cup of coffee to your mornings.) We've got some easy tips for you and your BFF that will leave you both feeling energized and ready to take on the summer!
- There is no denying the satisfaction that deep-dish pepperoni pizza provides. But what about the unexpected bloating and sluggish energy levels that you experience shortly after? You know what we're talking about- it's that moment when you and your BFF clutch your stomachs and collapse on the couch in utter defeat. Try substituting the deep-dish with thin crust pizza that is loaded with vegetables. You'll be left feeling full and satisfied, plus you'll have the energy to play a round of backyard volleyball with your BFF!
- Avoid an energy slump by swapping “white products”, such as white bread and rice, with whole-grain substitutes. Whole grain foods tend to have more flavor and are packed with necessary nutrients. Plus, whole grains are digested much slower than white products, which spike your blood sugar and cause that dreaded energy crash.
- Replace red meat with lean white meats. Chow down on yummy chicken tacos, turkey cheese burgers, and turkey bacon. You’ll cut tons of fat out of your diet and avoid that horrible bloated feeling!
- Most importantly, be conscious of what you are consuming. Yes, a handful of almonds contains about the same number of calories as a candy bar- but they act very differently in your body! Almonds provide you with healthy fats and an energy boost, while the candy will result in a sugar crash that leaves you wanting to curl up in your bed mid-afternoon.
Just remember- small changes make a big difference! Be sure to introduce your BFF to these changes as well. Now get out there and use your new-found energy to enjoy relaxing in the sun!

Five movies to keep you and your BFF entertained during those summer showers
Summer time is sun time, right? Well… not always. Unfortunately, every season has its fair share of gloomy days. They always seem to pop up right when you have your heart set on a beach weekend, don’t they? RUDE. So, what do you do? You show Mother Nature who’s boss, that’s what! Because sure, rain can spoil your sailing trip or your bike ride but that certainly doesn’t mean it should spoil your fun.
So, pull out the blankets and pillows, the lemonade and popcorn and settle in- the BFF team has you and your bestie covered for a night filled with laughter and P.J.’s!
Start the night off right with everyone’s favorite, summer classic: “Dirty Dancing”. This hit is such a favorite; it won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and most appropriately a TV Land Award for “Movie Dance Sequence You Reenacted in Your Living Room.”
Second on the list: “10 Things I Hate About You”. Honestly, how could you have a girl’s night without this movie? Get your taste of Shakespeare with a modern twist- this film is an adaptation of his classic “The Taming of the Shrew”.
Refill those popcorn bowls, girls, third up is “Clueless”. Alicia Silverstone kills it in this 1995 comedy. An updated version of Jane Austen’s, “Emma”, this all too accurately titled film is based on the high school shenanigans of its leading lady, Cher . Vapid, hilarious and over-the-top, it’s sure to keep those giggles coming!
Late night with “She’s the Man” and see a side of Amanda Bynes that’ll have you questioning that pixie cut you keep thinking about. Funny, cute and chock full of shirtless Channing Tatum, you won’t regret this pick.
Finish up the evening (or early morning) with our favorite Lindsey moment, “Mean Girls”. But don’t get any ideas, ladies, as always “beware of the plastics”!
If these don't get your funny fix, let us know by commenting below! We'd love to see your favorite summer picks!

On Our Radar: New Music
It’s an unwritten rule that everyone needs a summer soundtrack! You know what I’m talking about- it’s that playlist from summer ’03 that shows the truth behind your late-great Avril obsession and all too-heavy, black eyeliner. The one that occasionally pops up when your Ipod’s on shuffle and transports you back to that beautiful beach or sailing trip you made with your friends. And sure, maybe your tastes have changed but you just can’t force yourself to press the next arrow because you know that once the melody takes stage you’ll have the sun in your eyes and the sand at your feet again, almost like you never left in the first place…
We’ve all got them, we’ve all looked back and said “Oh wow, what was I thinking?!”, and we’ve certainly all taken the time to re-listen and re-enjoy the fond and sometimes crazy moments we had to them! Maybe it was the random Top 40 hits that everyone probably still knows the words to or the track list for you and your BFF’s favorite movie that summer, but whatever it is, it’s important.
It’s not too late, you know. The summer is nearing its peak and we here at BFF think it’s high-time you had a soundtrack to go with it! We won’t choose your songs for you but there are a few artists we think you should watch out for:
La Roux - You just can’t deny their catchy, electropop spunk! We loved them with “In for the Kill” and “Bulletproof” still has us singing along.
Fashawn - Underground hiphop artist from California, this guy knows what he’s doing. Check out his latest album “Boy Meets World” for insightful, bluesy hiphop, perfect for those long summer drives.
Prince - Or the artist formerly known as, always keeps our feet moving! He may not be the newest voice on the block but he’s an inspiration to all that’s out there. Young or old, you’ve heard his music and you’ve probably memorized a few bars.
Phoenix - Known for their alternative rock stylings, they were mentioned as 3rd on the top albums of 2009 according to Rolling Stone magazine. It’s a must for a lazy day by the beach or a picnic in the park.
Lady Gaga - Did you think we’d forget her? Of course not! Her albums are a dance party waiting to happen!
The list could go on for days - But whatever you choose, make sure you share them with those you love! Summer soundtracks may only feature a few months’ worth of fun but the memories you’ll make with them last a lifetime.

Friendship Friday!
Today, we'd like to introduce you to a cool new concept we're starting called "Friendship Friday" - a day dedicated to everything friendship; whether it be things to do with your BFF or advice, we've got it covered.
One of our close friends shared with us a recent sticky situation she had with her BFF a while back. Here's her story:
"Someone came up to me today and asked me why I said such horrible things to her on Facebook. I had no idea what she was talking about, but later found out that my best friend got into a fight online, and to fix things, she hacked into my account and backed herself up. It got me into trouble with my friends, plus my BFF lied to my face about it. Should I forgive her or not?"
Here's what we said:
First, things first: Don't share your online passwords with anyone. Not your boyfriend, not your sister, not your friends, not even your yorkie.
Imagine if your BFF had gotten into a fight with you. (Not saying that she would have) but she would have the capability to do way more damage with your Facebook account than just getting some people mad at you.
Clear your reputation by logging into Facebook, changing your password and updating your status allowing people to know that someone else was on your Facebook account. Don't give any names or it will just fan the flames and cause eruption between you and your BFF.

Most Importantly: Don't forget to forgive your friend! Friends are allowed to make mistakes, as long as they really, truly learn from them and change their ways.

Calling all Choco-holics!
Chocoholics, we have wonderful news for you: did you know that today is Chocolate Day? Yes, you read that correctly. July 7th marks a glorious 24 hours that are entirely devoted to everyone's favorite indulgence-chocolate. So grab your BFF and start celebrating immediately...you need to pack in as much choco-fun as possible!
Some fun chocolate history for you (use these facts to impress your BFF with your extensive chocolate knowledge!):
Some fun chocolate history for you (use these facts to impress your BFF with your extensive chocolate knowledge!):
- The cacao tree was discovered 2,000 years ago in the rainforests of the Americas.
- The first people known to have made chocolate were the ancient cultures of Mexico and Central America, including the Maya and the Aztecs, who used the cacao to make a spicy drink.
Looking for creative ways to spend the holiday? Try melting chocolate bars into fondue and dipping fruit, marshmallows, and rice krispies into the gooey goodness. If you're looking for a "cooler" option, make a cup of traditional hot chocolate and then throw it into a blender with ice for a frozen treat. Finish off your day by renting the film Chocolat with your BFF and indulging in a pint of chocolate ice cream as you drool over the beauty that is Johnny Depp. (Just keep reminding yourself that polishing off an entire pint is totally acceptable on Chocolate Day!)
Enjoy, chocolate fans!

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday and the long weekend! Take a moment today to remember what this country represents- American independence. Show your pride for our country by donning a BFF bracelet and connecting with a service man or woman who is currently stationed overseas. Watch as actress Camilla Belle explains why she wears her BFF bracelet.
The BFF bracelets are a joint initiative by the American Freedom Foundation (AFF) and BFF Entertainment. As Belle says, “It’s a symbol of my support for friends of the military serving our country.” Each of the bands comes engraved with a unique number, and when you register a specific bracelet, its matching pair is sent to an active military serviceman overseas, who you can connect with through the AFF’s online community.
To get your bracelet, head over to our BFF Bracelet Page. Enjoy your festivities this weekend!

4th of July Plans, anyone?
Happy Friday! The holiday weekend is only a few hours away, which means it's time to finalize those weekend plans with your BFF! If you're stumped over what to do, we've got some ideas to share.
On a side note, Fox and Friends featured the BFF bracelets this morning in support of the proud men and women who serve this country! Thanks to Fox and Friends for talking to Sergeant Major Jack Tilley and supporting this awesome opportunity to connect friends, families, and soldiers. If you missed it this morning, you can watch it here. What a great way to kick off the holiday weekend!
And now some ideas for you and your BFF....

And now some ideas for you and your BFF....
- Obviously, no properly celebrated 4th of July would be complete without a parade and fireworks. Check your local newspaper for details as to when and where these events are taking place in your area.
- Backyard BBQ's are a cheap and fun way to gather all of your family and friends together. Plus, there is something about the smell of hamburgers on the grill that just screams "summertime"! (Fun tip: throw some thick slices of pineapple on the grill for a sweet treat!)
- Sick and tired of the cliched red, white, and blue outfits? Instead, add some fun nautical-inspired pieces to your outfit. Nautical themed clothing and accessories are super fashionable right now- think a blue and white striped tank, or a dangling anchor pendant.
- How cute are the American flag cakes that always pop up in bakeries for the holiday? Rather than spending your hard-earned cash on a professional dessert, grab your BFF and make your own versions! Bake a simple white sheet cake (we won't judge you if you buy the pre-made mix!) and top with white icing, sliced strawberries, and fresh blueberries. Yum!
- Live near water? Then take to the seas! Outdoor activities allow you to enjoy the beautiful weather AND spend quality time with your BFF beneath the summer sun, whether you're paddling a kayaking, catching wind on a sailboat, or simply wading in and relaxing with a fishing pole. Wear sunscreen and your nautical-themed gear, of course.
- Indulge! Share a pint of ice cream and laughs with your BFF as you reflect on the holiday.
- Most importantly, don't forget to take a moment to remember what the holiday represents. Thank our service men and women for allowing the US to remain a free country. Connect with a member of the military as a symbol of your gratitude.

BFF's Summer Reading List
Let's face it- there is nothing quite like curling up in a hammock beneath the summer sun with a good romance novel, and then calling your BFF to gawk over the dreamy leading man. However, we'll be the first to admit that the overly sappy and predictable love stories can quickly become- dare we say it- boring. Where is the adventure? The gut wrenching twist? Well, we've finally found a novel that encompasses suspense, shock, AND heartwarming romance. (You're welcome.)
Trust us when we say that you will not be able to put down Nicholas Spark's The Guardian once you begin reading. Sparks keeps readers gasping with disbelief at unexpected twists and simultaneously tearing up as we follow protagonist Julie in her guarded search for love. Julie is like a breath of fresh air when compared to the typical female protagonist in romance novels- she is a strong confident woman who refuses to pity herself or play the "damsel in distress" role. The highlight of the novel is Julie's goofy Great Dane and BFF, Singer, who's overly protective ways suggest that he has insight that his human counterpart does not. Check out the description on the back of the book:
Julie Barenson’s young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died – a puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now, four years later, twenty-nine year-old Julie is far too young to have given up on love. She may be ready to risk caring for someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the sophisticated, handsome engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband’s best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she’s had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire . . . The Guardian contains all the qualities readers expect from Nicholas Sparks. But here, he adds a new electrifying intensity – and page after page of riveting suspense.
We recommend reading this book at the same time as your BFF so you can coordinate phone calls to gasp over each twist and turn. If not, then definitely pass her your copy when you finish reading!
